Sorry to both you again, but still the same problem.

For the venus computer for which I upgraded the software,
the second time I ran
 venus -init &
if fails and there is the message

18:43:58 0 hdb entries on free-list
18:43:58 Kernel version ioctl failed (Inappropriate ioctl for device)!
18:43:58 2.3 or later kernels require an updated kernel module!
18:43:58 Initial LRDB allocation
18:43:58 Getting Root Volume information...
18:43:58 Venus starting...
18:43:58 Fatal Signal (11); pid 16270 becoming a zombie...

The console file reads
18:43:58 Initial LRDB allocation
18:43:58 Getting Root Volume information...
18:43:58 Venus starting...
18:43:58 Fatal Signal (11); pid 16270 becoming a zombie...

I do not understand the message
18:43:58 Kernel version ioctl failed (Inappropriate ioctl for device)!
18:43:58 2.3 or later kernels require an updated kernel module!
since I am using the kernel 2.2.13 and most recent coda kernel
module. Both the kernal version and the module version are
the same as when it worked, before I had trouble with the server.

Again, after (but not before) venus failed there appeared two
processes venus -init .
