In general, I would think this is a bad idea.  Even if venus hasn't
been shut down normally, it should still be possible to start it up
(without "-init") properly, otherwise there is a bug :)

"venus -init" is amounting to brainwiping everything on the client
cache, including those updates that the user has made and not yet
reintegrated with the server.  It should remain a major decision to be
made by the user and should not be done transparently.
