I'm not really sure.  The VSZ footprint according to ps is about the
same at 120MB, but simply stopping the server, installing the one-line
patched version, and restarting increased my available system VM
(according to top) by ~40MB.

At least the annoying part for me had a very simple solution.  Thanks!
