Well, what exactly does not work ?
Can you start it with the same command line arguments 
the scripts would use ? Does it die with an exit status != 0 ?
Can you run strace on it ? 

We run SuSE7.0 and it's fine,
kernel 2.4.18, libc 2.1.3
and someone here did it on SuSE7.3
