The following assertion is false

19:22:58 Create returns 27 on somefile 1000001.5ec.dd12
Assertion failed: 0, file "srvproc.cc", line 4193
EXITING! Bye!

A previous list thread indicates that this occurs when directories are
256k in size.

Is this still true?  Is there a code work around?
