Both programs actually initiate rpc-operations which result in creation
of backup volumes.

Note that in the description of the backup subsystem one talks about
"making clones" which is confusing as a "readonly clone" is a different
thing even if similar to a backup volume. Actually it is backup volumes
which are used for backups.
